Description

The Pockels effect produces a birefringence phenomenon in a medium subject to an electric field. The so-called Pockels cells act as variable electrically controlled retardation plates.

The experimental set first suggests studying all the polarization phenomena implicated in Pockels effect: polarizers, analyzers, quarter-wave and half-wave plates, anisotropy.

Therefore, the experiment implements the main Pockels effect application: the electro-optical modulation.

The cell allows the optical modulation by polarization, the simple modulation , AM... The transmission of an audio signal allows verifying practically the proper functioning of the set.
